European Association for Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML PKDD Association)

An international non-profit according to Belgian law.

Purpose and Objectives

The ECML PKDD Association's overall purpose is to foster the European research community on machine learning, data science, and artificial intelligence, and to help maximize its reach and positive impact on society.

A specific goal is to oversee the organization of an associated conference series, called “ECML PKDD” (European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases).

The Association aims to facilitate knowledge and data transfer across conference editions, maintaining a multi-year website, nurturing the community, and appointing organizing teams for each annual conference edition.

Membership

Membership is open to individuals only.

Each Member subscribes to the Purpose and Objectives of the Association as described above, and agrees to abide by the Code of Conduct. Other than this, Members do not enter into any personal obligation with regard to the commitments of the Association.

Membership of the Association is a requirement for attending the ECML PKDD conference.

Thus, individuals who wish to attend the conference will be required to become a member upon registration to the conference. The membership fee amount is determined by the Board of Directors and is currently 30 EUR.

Any Member my resign from the Association at any time by submitting his or her resignation by email to the President of the Association.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the supreme body of the Association, consisting of all Members. The General Assembly meets at least once annually, either physically or virtually.

Unless this is impossible due to force majeure, the General Assembly holds its annual meeting during the Conference.

Board of directors

The Board of Directors consists of Directors with Specific Roles, and representatives from the past three Conference editions' organizing committees in a Generic Role.

Specific Roles are created by the Board, as considered useful to the Association. The Board may also decide at any time to dissolve a Specific Role, when it is no longer considered useful to the Association.

The Board is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Association. The Board meets at least twice annually, with one meeting during the conference. This meeting is separate from the General Assembly.
